Ebola is rampant in western Africa in the countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Today, they reported that a photographer for the National Broadcasting Company came back to The United States with symptoms of Ebola and then it was reported that a man in Texas was diagnosed with Ebola after exposing somewhere between 50 and 100 people directly and who knows how many by secondary and tertiary contact.
That is bad enough as this is a deadly disease and should be quarantined in the initially contaminated area, but it is too late for that. Had it been contained, since several successful treatments have been developed, Ebola could have been treated in an effective manner and eventually eradicated.
However, flight in and out of western Africa are still permitted to Europe, Asia, and North America effectively and efficiently spreading the disease exposing the planet to what could turn out to be a worldwide epidemic. All flights in and out of the effected area should have been stopped.
Today, there was a news report stating that America cannot isolate the western coast of Africa because Liberia was founded for the slave trade and American traders brought slaves to America. Therefore we need to allow people to travel back and forth carrying the disease.
What type of ignorant fallacious reasoning is this? This type of thinking has no place in the modern world. Using the same reasoning I could claim that the Osage Indians of Oklahoma owe me because in the 1800’s they killed my great grandfather. The Osage tribe owes me nothing. My family never owned slaves and even if they did, I am no more responsible for what would have been my ancestor’s digressions as you are for your ancestors’. Likewise, I am not entitled to special treatment because of some act that someone else’s ancestors may have committed.
It is high time that people who spout this useless venom be dressed down and quashed to end the perpetuation of this irrational attitude of entitlement.
