Last year I read a post by someone who said you can celebrate Christmas without Christ. The poster went on to say that he let’s his children believe in Santa Claus and by doing so, does not have to bring Jesus into the picture.
Did you know that Santa Claus was based upon Saint Nikolaos of Myra? Nikolaos was a Catholic Bishop who would roam his parish at night. When he came across a pair of shoes belonging to one of his parishioners outside their door, he would leave coins in the shoes.
As time went by and the story of his giving spread, it finally reached Holland where Saint Nikolaos became Sinterklaas (Santa Claus).
So if a secular person celebrates Christmas in the spirit of Santa Claus, they are still celebrating a Christian holiday. Even if you take Santa out of the picture and exchange gifts of Christmas you are continuing the tradition started by good ole St. Nick.
Ho, Ho, Ho!
