Thought for Today (3/4/2017)

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The declaration says we are all created equal, which is true, but what we do with ourselves afterwards is completely up to us; in no way does the declaration say equality exists throughout someone’s life. If equality were to exist throughout life, we all would be mentally equal, physically equal, and socially equal. Equality throughout all aspects of life would make us robots, not humans.

It then says “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, it does not guarantee us happiness, but the pursuit thereof. Since happiness can be found only within, it is up to each person to find it and cannot be guaranteed by anyone, including the government.
