Thought for Today (3/16/2017)

Charity comes from the heart, not a government mandate. ~ ME

But it is not something to be bragged about and should be done anonymously.  This comes from Matthew 6:1-4 which says:

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

and while we’re at it:

Don’t be dependent upon others for your existence when you are able bodied yourself. The verbiage here comes from me, the ideology comes from 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 which states:

“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”  We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.”

It goes on to say not to associate with those who are slothful so they will be ashamed.  But do not treat them like an enemy either, but to warn them as you would another believer.
