What Ever Happened to….

What ever happened to the nation that had morality and the people did good deeds for another and spent their time on the land toiling to feed their families?

What happened to the nation where it was safe to leave their windows open at night to allow the cool summer night breezes in and waft their children off to peaceful dreams?

What happened to the nation where the people worked hard during the week but saved one day to rest?

What happened to the nation where teachers, doctors, police, firefighters, military personnel and parents were respected and revered?

What happened to the nation where people saved for what they wanted until they had the funds to purchase?

What happened to that nation where something broken was repaired and not tossed aside for a new item?

What happened to that nation where parents raised their children to know right from wrong and corrected them without fear of reprisal from the government?

I can tell you what happened:

reverence for God was replaced with lust for more money;

A good work ethic was replaced by greed and a misguided feeling of entitlement;

Humility was replaced with arrogance;

Frugality was replaced with credit;

Someone convinced others that keeping children happy was worth more than learning responsibility;

We have become a nation that exemplifies the seven deadly sins rather than have morality; and

We are a nation that lusts for the short time on earth rather than working for an eternity afterwards.

Thought for Today: There will come a time in the not too distant future that the older generation will not ever ask “what ever happened to” in reflection of a time when this nation and her people were a citizenry of great people, because they will never have known America to be such.
